the august playlist

If I could just make this playlist the entirety of the new Maccabees album then, believe me, I would. It is beyond amazing. But I'll be a little more productive than that and suggest you listen to it anyway and then provide you with a separate ten songs to enjoy. I have just returned from a fortnight's holiday in the Lake District and the weather was reasonably kind; I did get to have a paddle in Coniston Water at the end of a particularly lovely day and it was completely wonderful. Anyway, how about some music?

I thought I'd start with this particular George Ezra song as me and my mum are off to Barcelona next week for a little bit of culture and, hopefully, a lot of sunshine. I'm not looking forward to the flight in the slightest, but I am sure it will be worth it - Barcelona has been on my 'to visit' list for a long time! The summer holidays provides me with plenty of Netflix viewing time and so I put Austin to Boston on while I got on with other things as it provided me with a pretty wonderful soundtrack; hearing it made me remember just how much I love Nathaniel Rateliff. Summer holidays also often means travelling, and when on long journeys I always end up listening to albums that I haven't played in a while - James Vincent McMorrow never disappoints. I completely missed the fact that they'd released new stuff (oops), but I will always say yes to CHVRCHES. This Luke Sital-Singh EP has been pre-ordered, rather guiltily, but it's all pretty and beautiful music and I'm just going make it an early birthday present to myself. I came across Flyte quite by accident but I clearly really liked them as they went straight onto this playlist, and I can thank Lucy Rose for introducing me to Jake Isaac after she announced he would be supporting her on tour. I've caught a couple of the radio sessions done by Bear's Den recently and they haven't disappointed - I'm surprised that they're yet to feature on one of these playlists as I've been a fan for a while. And with the small amount of sunny weather that's been gracing us, this song by The Mamas & The Papas is perfect - how can you not feel summery after listening to it?! Finally to Pesky, a band made up of young teenagers (around 13 years old, I think), something I find completely ridiculous - at that age I was being a totally boring booky school kid, not getting air play on national radio!

Just over a week left of my summer, and then it's back to business at uni. And it's my final year. Oh Lord. At least I have music to keep me mildly sane. Enjoy!
